The Florida Health Information Exchange is pleased to announce the addition of 13 rehabilitation hospitals – which together include over 1,000 licensed hospital beds – to the statewide Encounter Notification Service (ENS).
ENS unites hospitals, physicians, Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), payers, and other health care providers across Florida, by providing real-time notice of patient health care encounters. ENS covers 94% of acute care hospital beds statewide, and with these new hospital partners, ENS now covers over 80% of rehabilitation hospital beds in Florida.
Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital is a 160-bed hospital located in Jacksonville, Florida and is Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accredited in stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, pain, pediatrics and general medical rehabilitation. Encompass Health operates 12 rehabilitation hospitals across Florida and is the nation’s largest owner and operator of inpatient rehabilitation facilities. Both organizations are now connected to the Florida HIE to help improve care for their patients. Rehabilitation hospitals offer intensive, interdisciplinary rehabilitation services, including physical, speech, and occupational therapies, to patients who can tolerate three hours of intense rehabilitation services each day. By connecting to ENS to share admit and discharge information with other network participants, these rehabilitation hospital partners are helping to ensure better coordinated care and improved transitions of care for their patients.
ENS connects over 225 hospitals, 25 ACOs, 15 payers, and thousands of physicians and other health care professionals statewide. Together these organizations are using ENS to improve transitions of care and provide better coordinated care for over 8 million Floridians. All data exchange through ENS is patient authorized and HIPAA compliant.
